Clara Chu is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in London. Her practice explores the sociology contexts of everyday objects, driven by the following question – ‘how do we associate our bodies with anonymous designs such as a vegetable peeler, a kitchen sponge or a toothbrush?’ Through visionary and colourful pop accessories with a humorous and playful translation, she re-appropriates mundane household items and mixes mass production with the hand-crafted. Her latest works that cross over the world of Fashion and Art question the statuses and potential of kitchenware such as a factory-made ice cube tray upholstered and engineered into a handbag with luxurious leather and suede.
