b.1980 A. Nigh Herndon is a visual artist currently living and working in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Guadalajara Mexico. My work is an attempt to represent that subtle and elusive verity, functioning as an emotional window by which the viewer is allowed to participate as a fellow observer, gazing uncritically upon subtle fields of a colorless yet self-aware neutrality. The dualistic nature of the diptych provides the necessary formality of a visual “echo chamber” within which the reverberations of tones with the appearance of highly contrasted black and white can freely dissolve, evolve, and ultimately resolve into an ubiquitous gray, simultaneously harmonious and ominous, only then to break, and shift again into the binary, even representational world, in which the viewer and artist must both exist as co-observers, subjects and objects.
